For gambling, 89 wedding guests were arrested late Monday in Ahmedabad’s Paldi area. Along with the arrests, police said they seized property worth Rs 1.58 crore as well as Rs 3,74,155 in cash. The accused included Varshil Desai, 24, and Kashish Desai, 24, both grooms who were set to marry on Wednesday, February 22.
The guests were housed in two flats at the Laxmi Niwas apartments. The seized’muddamal’ (property) included 35 two-wheelers and 18 four-wheelers worth more than Rs 1.25 crore. All of the guests who came to the flats for two separate weddings were from the Navrangpura and Pritamnagar areas. “A case has been filed in connection with the incident,” Ahmedabad M Division ACP SD Patel said.
Varshil Desai has been released on sufficient bail due to his engagement. Following the completion of the wedding ceremonies, police will take appropriate action against him, according to Patel.
Meanwhile, devotees at the Sridurga Bhogeshwara Kshetra during the recently concluded Shivaratri festival in Andhra Pradesh’s Kurnool district accused fraudsters of duping them out of Rs 30 lakh on Wednesday. The scammers claimed that the local administration allowed them to set up stalls for Rs 3 lakh. As devotees flocked to the temple for Shivaratri, the fraudsters allegedly attracted those attending the fair by promising high returns.
