Gujarat Giants owner Gautam Adani unveiled their logo ahead of the upcoming player auction on Sunday. Adani Sportsline Pvt Ltd paid Rs 1,289 crore for the Ahmedabad-based franchise, the most any buyer has paid for one of the five WPL teams.
The Gujarat Giants unveiled their team logo on Twitter. “Introducing the Gujarat Giants’ @wplt20 team logo: the Asiatic Lioness roaring and ready for any challenge!” The Asiatic Lion, which can only be found in Gujarat’s Gir National Park, has become a symbol of the state. “Asian Lionesses form large pride and hunt together, forming a lethal prospect for all their prey,” Gujarat said of the logo.
Rachael Haynes, a legendary Australian cricketer, has been named head coach of the Ahmedabad-based franchise for the upcoming season. While batting legend Mithali Raj has been named team mentor. While Haynes will be the team’s head coach, former Indian spinner Nooshin Al Khadeer will be the team’s bowling coach.
Tushar Arothe, an all-rounder, will be their batting coach, and Gavan Twining will be their fielding coach. The first WPL will be held in Mumbai from March 4th to March 26th, 2023. All 22 matches of the marquee tournament will be played at Brabourne Stadium and D.Y. Patil Stadium.
Gujarat Giants (Ahmedabad franchise) is the most expensive team, having been sold for the highest price – INR 1289 crore (approximately USD 158 million), followed by Mumbai (INR 912.99 crore/approximately USD 111 million). Bengaluru (INR 901 crore/USD 110 million approx), Delhi (INR 810 crore/USD 99.35 million approx), and Lucknow (INR 757 crore/USD 92.85 million approx) were the other three teams and their prices were lower than Mumbai and Gujarat.
