It was the second tremor to be felt in the area since January 8 when a minor earthquake of magnitude 3.0 struck Gujarat’s Kutch district on Thursday afternoon, according to officials.
The epicentre of the earthquake was located 19 km to the northwest of Dudhai. According to the Gandhinagar-based Institute of Seismological Research, it happened at 1.45 pm at a depth of 18.6 km (ISR). There have been no reports of any earthquake-related damage.
The epicentre of a tremor of a comparable magnitude that struck the region on January 8 was located 24 km to the north-northwest of Bhachau. Near Chobari village, the epicentre of the devastating Kutch earthquake in 2001, both seismic events were recorded.
Vamka village, which is about 20 km from Chobari, where multi-parametric geophysical observatory that the ISR has set up to track seismic activity in the area, particularly from the South Vagad fault.
