The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has organized a special heritage walk for delegates attending the Urban 20 (U20) meetings, which will take place in Ahmedabad on Thursday and Friday (February 9 and 10), as part of India’s G20 presidency.
The walk will begin at Bhadrakali temple near Bhadra fort in Old Ahmedabad, continue through Kalupur’s Swaminarayan temple, Kavi Dalpatram chowk, Jama masjid, and conclude with breakfast at The House of Mangaldas Girdhardas, the city’s premier heritage hotel.
The meeting will include delegates from 59 G20 cities as well as 22 Indian cities, and the delegates will visit some of Ahmedabad’s important heritage sites.

“The meetings will be held at Taj Skyline on Sindhu Bhavan road,” said AMC Deputy Municipal Commissioner Praveen Chaudhary. The delegates will also go to Adalaj Stepwell, Sabarmati Ashram, Atal Bridge, and Kankaria Lake.”
The Atal Bridge, a footbridge over the Sabarmati River, is the city’s newest attraction. “In the city, various locations have been beautified. For example, on Sindhu Bhavan Road, we are making it more pedestrian-friendly by regulating traffic and discouraging parking,” Chaudhary added.
Participants have been asked to sign a communiqué based on six U20 priority areas: encouraging environmentally sustainable behavior, ensuring water security, ramping up climate finance, championing local identity, reinventing the framework for urban governance and planning, and catalyzing digital urban futures.
The meetings are intended to deepen their collaboration and find solutions that are in line with the G20’s overall goals.
The heritage walk will allow delegates to learn more about the UNESCO World Heritage City and its rich cultural heritage. They will be taken to the Atal Bridge, which, like the Sabarmati Riverfront project, is entirely built by a local body, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. “These locations will highlight Ahmedabad as an urban center undertaking many such progressive projects,” said Chaudhary.
