Shamsher Singh, the Vadodara police commissioner officer, was promoted to the rank of DGP in a single promotion order issued by the state home department. Vadodara CP was previously of additional DGP rank but has now been promoted to DGP rank.
There is buzz that 1991 batch IPS Shamsher Singh could be posted as police commissioner of Ahmedabad or Surat. It is also likely that after the superannuation of Sanjay Srivastava, currently Ahmedabad CP, in March 2023, Surat CP Ajay Tomar could be posted here. In that scenario, Shamsher Singh could be posted as Surat CP.
Singh was promoted in situ to the rank of Director General of Police and appointed to the same ex-cadre post of Commissioner of Police, Vadodara City, according to a notification issued on Saturday.
Shamsher Singh was appointed as Vadodara CP in January 2021, succeeding 1995 batch IPS officer Addl DGP R B Brahmbhatt, who is now the head of Gujarat’s CID Crime.
