Police intervened and ended a social boycott of 17 families belonging to the “Nai” (barber) community after one of its members marring an upper caste woman in Bhutavad village. Now the woman concerned has been kidnapped, allegedly by her father and three other people.
After Sachin Nai and Manasvi, who started dating two years ago, got married at the Mirzapur Court in Ahmedabad on December 12, 2022, the impacted families were subject to a social boycott. The police rehabilitated the affected families in the village on Thursday, and members of the upper caste were warned to resume social interactions or face legal repercussions.
Manasvi, however, is said to have been kidnapped later. Sachin, who owns a salon in Nikol, reported the incident to police on Friday. He claimed that while he and Manasvi were at his friend Khusbuben’s house, her father Arvind Chaudhary and three other men arrived, beat him, and then took her away in a car without an RTO licence plate.
