On January 17, cold wave conditions are still present in north and northwest India. For the majority of the states, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for a cold wave.
Rajasthan continued to struggle with the freezing cold, with Mount Abu’s minimum temperature on January 16 falling to minus 6 degrees Celsius.
The IMD has issued an orange alert for the majority of Rajasthan’s districts due to the freezing cold.
Mount Abu
At Mount Abu, a hill station located in the Aravalli mountain range and included in the Sirohi district of the desert state, the temperature dropped to below freezing. On January 16, it reached the season’s lowest temperature of minus 6 degrees Celsius.
Pipelines that contained water froze in some places, disrupting daily life. Residents of the hill station also noticed snow covering trees, fields, and even the water bowls of birds. The bone-chilling temperature had an effect on taxi and autorickshaw drivers’ business as well. A bonefire was seen with people huddling around it to stay warm.
Lowest Temperature
IMD reported a minimum temperature of -3.7 degrees Celsius in Fatehpur, -2.5 degrees Celsius in Churu, and -2.0 degrees Celsius in Sikar. Zero degrees Celsius in Bhulwara, -1.4 degrees Celsius in Karoli, and -1.5 degrees Celsius in Chittorgarh were the nighttime lows.
On January 16, the state’s capital Jaipur experienced minimum and maximum temperatures of 3 and 19, respectively.
Weather predictions
According to the IMD, a new western disturbance is expected to start affecting the western Himalayan region on the night of January 18, 2023.
Due to the new Western Disturbance, the minimum temperature will gradually increase by three to five degrees between January 19 and 20.
