Seven crew members of a fishing boat in Gujarat that caught fire Monday about 50 kilometres off the coast of Porbandar were saved by the Indian Coast Guard.
At 9:45 am, the Coast Guard’s maritime rescue subcenter in Porbandar received a distress call about a fire on the fishing boat “Jay Bhole.” An official statement stated that the interceptor ships C-161 and C-156, as well as a cutting-edge light helicopter, were used to locate the boat.
When the Coast Guard arrived at the boat at 10:20 am, they discovered that the crew had left after failing to put out the fire. Two of the crew’s seven members were discovered in a dinghy (small boat). One of the two was transported to Porbandar for treatment after suffering serious injuries. After a two-hour search, the remaining five crew members were located and were airlifted, according to the sources.
