On Thursday in Nadiad, Kheda district, a 37-year-old man lost his life after being strangled by a kite string that was hanging in the air.
Vipul Thakkar, a resident of Anand, was travelling to meet a friend in Nadiad when the incident occurred close to the Sardar Nagar area.
Locals rushed Thakkar to the closest hospital, according to the Kheda police, which has opened an investigation into the accident, but he died from excessive blood loss.
According to the police, Thakkar supports his family, which also includes his brother who works as a daily wage labourer and his dependent parents.
In a district-wide crackdown on the sale and use of the lethal glass coated kite strings, Kheda police have seized nearly 500 rolls of the forbidden kite strings since Thursday. In a related incident, a motorcycle rider in Dahod district required 14 stitches for his face after becoming tangled in glass-coated kite strings.
