Chinese manja (kite strings) are still causing serious injuries to people and animals, despite the fact that their use and sale are illegal. Chinese manja is still being sold illegally despite the High Court receiving numerous petitions calling for its outright prohibition.
Chinese manja manufacturers and sellers are selling the strings illegally even though the government and police are working to outlaw them. Injuries in bikers caused by Chinese manja have occurred on numerous occasions. These strings have edges that could cut someone’s throat. People want the administration to act against Chinese strings because of this.
As the government appears to be having difficulty containing the threat, people have turned to some creative defences to protect themselves from chinese manja. For their defence, they came up with a clever solution. The bikers have placed metal wire in front of their vehicle to guard against the Chinese manja. These wires will stop the string and prevent any harm from happening.
A biker remarked, “Chinese manja is still being sold and used in spite of the ban on it. These are extremely hazardous and endanger people’s lives. This string is sharp enough to slit the throats of the kids who are sitting on the bike. Even the High Court ruled against the sale of these strings, but they are still available.”
The Ahmedabad City Police have made over 400 arrests so far in their campaign to target Chinese manja producers. Over 400 suspects have been detained as a result of the 338 complaints that Ahmedabad Police have received regarding the sale of Chinese manja. Thousands of spools of these strings have also been taken by the police in addition to this.
