Between January 8 and 14, Gujarat will host the world’s largest kite festival. The participation of fliers from 52 countries and 14 Indian states will make it a one-of-a-kind festival in the world, worthy of being written down in history.
Kite fliers from 43 countries took part in the marquee event in 2020. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel will inaugurate the event, which will take place in ten cities and towns across the state, with the main event taking place on the Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad.
Vadodara, Vadnagar, the Statue of Unity in Kevadiya, Dwarka, Surat, Somnath, Rajkot, Dholera, and the White Rann of Kutch are the other nine destinations (Dhordo).
Foreign kite fliers will be taken to Vadodara and Vadnagar on January 9, Kevadiya and Dwarka on January 10, and Surat and Somnath on January 11. The festival will be held on January 12 in Rajkot and Dholera, and on January 13 in Dhordo and the White Rann of Kutch. For the first time, Dholera and Vadnagar have been added to the schedule to promote the former as a Smart City and the latter as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
“We are attempting to set a world record this time by inviting kite fliers from over 52 countries and 14 Indian states,” said Alok Pandey, MD of Gujarat Tourism.
“We had invited fliers from 65 countries,” he added. However, due to the spread of Covid, we have requested that fliers from 13 countries, including China, skip the event.”
There will also be a theme pavilion, a kite-making workshop, handicraft and food stalls at the mega event. Evening cultural events will be held to entertain participants and citizens.
