According to police, a 42-year-old Border Security Force Jawan was killed by seven family members in Gujarat’s Kheda district after he went to their home to protest after accusing one of them of posting an offensive video of his young daughter online.
The incident happened around 10 p.m. on Saturday and the seven accused were reportedly taken into custody on Sunday.
BSF jawan Melaji Vaghela, his wife and son went to Dinesh Jadav’s home in Chaklasi village, Nadiad taluka, to express their displeasure over the offensive video of Vaghela’s daughter that they claimed was shared on social media by Jadav’s son.
“After a heated argument over the issue, Jadav and his six other family members attacked Vaghela and his family members with sticks and sharp weapons,” Nadiad’s Deputy Superintendent of Police V R Bajpai told reporters.
Vaghela suffered injuries to his head and other body parts and passed away instantly. His son Navdeep too suffered severe head injuries and his wife was also injured, the official said.
An FIR was filed on Sunday night at the Chaklasi police station under the Indian Penal Code Sections 504 (intentional insult), 143 (illegal assembly), 302 (murder) and 307 (attempt to murder), he said
All the seven accused were arrested. They were sent to judicial custody on Monday. An investigation was on into the incident. A forensic team was in the process of collecting evidence, he said.
According to Superintendent of Police Rajesh Gadhiya, the incident happened while Vaghela was on vacation with his family before being transferred from Ambasan in Mehsana to Barmer in Rajasthan.
