A visually impaired student at the Maharaja Krishnakumarsinhji Andha Udyog Shala in Bhavnagar was severely injured after being beaten up by 3-4 of his blind classmates on suspicion of stealing. No one was present at the school on Sunday when the incident occurred, claims Labhubhai Sonani, the organization’s trustee.
The victim is currently receiving treatment at Sir T Hospital after suffering serious back injuries. In the interim, his parents have reported the accused students to the police. According to the victim’s mother, he enrolled Andha Udyog Shala about a year ago and has been subject to persistent bullying from his peers.
“We enrolled our son in this school about a year ago. His classmates took advantage of the situation when no one was at the school on Sunday, and beat him up on false accusations of theft. Though the incident happened in the morning, we were informed late by evening. He has received serious injuries and is currently under treatment at a hospital,” she said.
The family of the victim also posted on Twitter to call attention to the incident and demand that their son receive justice. They included the local and state authorities in the tweet as well, but none of them responded.
The Bhavnagar police have launced an investigation and filed a complaint against the alleged students. The school’s administrative staff has made sure that whoever is found to be responsible for the violence will face punishment.
