Airports Authority of India (AAI) and other private Airport Developers have targeted a capital outlay of approximately Rs. 98,000 crore in the airport sector over the next five years for expansion and modification of existing terminals, new terminals, and runway strengthening, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Gen. V. K. Singh informed the Lok Sabha today.
Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Lucknow, and Ahmedabad have budgeted capital expenditures of Rs 10,550 crore, Rs 13,552 crore, Rs 6,288 crore and Rs 1,383 crore respectively.
The project costs for the nine operationalized Greenfield airports are as follows: Durgapur-Rs 670 crore, Shirdi-Rs 320 crore, Pakyong-Rs 553.53 crore, Kannur-Rs 2342 crore, Kalaburagi-Rs 175.57 crore, Orvakal-Rs 187 crore, Sindhudurg-Rs 520 crore, Kushinagar-Rs 448 crore and Donyi Polo, Itanagar- Rs 646 crore.
Furthermore, the airports in Mangaluru, Guwahati, and Ahmedabad have set aside capital expenditures of Rs 567 crore, Rs 1232 crore and Rs 376 crore, respectively for the 2019-25 fiscal year.
The minister stated in a written response to a question that upgrading and modernising airport infrastructure is a continuous process that is undertaken by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and other Airport Developers from time to time depending on the availability of land, commercial viability, socioeconomic considerations, traffic demand, and willingness of airlines to operate at such airports.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has issued a Civil Aviation Requirement based on the International Standards and Recommended Practices for Aerodromes set out by the International Civil Aviation Organisation, he added.
