Following Bharatiya Janata Party’s landslide victory in the Gujarat Assembly elections, Bhupendra Bhai Patel has been re-elected as the state’s Chief Minister and will take the oath on Monday. Meanwhile, newly elected BJP MLAs gathered at the Gandhinagar party office on Sunday for a meeting with former Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.
Patel was re-elected Chief Minister for a second consecutive term after being re-appointed by the state governor a day earlier on Friday. The BJP staked its claim to form the government at the meeting.
According to sources, the new Gujarat Cabinet will take the oath with the Chief Minister on December 12 in a ceremony attended by more than a dozen ministers.
On being asked about taking up of Uniform Civil Code in the first cabinet meeting, Patel said, “The committee has been formed. Work will be done on the basis of their recommendation.”
After securing a historic mandate in Gujarat, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced on Thursday that Bhupendra Patel would continue as Chief Minister of the state, with his inauguration scheduled for December 12.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP State President CR Patil will all be present for the ceremony.
In its seventh consecutive election victory, the BJP won a record 156 seats in Gujarat with a staggering 52.5 percent vote share. In contrast, the Opposition Congress and AAP received over 27% and 13% of the vote, respectively. The Congress received only 17 seats, while the AAP received five.
