Former Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) chief Arun Kumar Singh was appointed as chairman of ONGC on Wednesday, making him the first retired official to head a state-owned Maharatna entity. Singh qualified for the position after the Petroleum Ministry relaxed the age-related requirements.
“The Appointments Committee of Cabinet (ACC) has approved the proposal of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas for the appointment of Arun Kumar Singh, ex-CMD, BPCL as chairman, ONGC for a three-year tenure with effect from the date of his assumption of charge of the post,” an official order said.
Singh holds a mechanical engineering degree from the National Institute of Technology in Patna and served as director (Marketing) at BPCL from October 2018 to September 2021. He was later promoted to the position of Chairman and Managing Director of the company.
In October of this year, he retired as Chairman of BPCL.
