The Election Commission has completed all preparations for the vote counting, which will take place Thursday at 37 counting centres across Gujarat. The entire counting procedure will be recorded on video.
The counting will begin at 8 a.m., with postal ballots counted first. Votes cast on EVMs will be counted beginning at 8:30 a.m. According to an official release, while each district has one counting centre, Ahmedabad has three counting centres, and Surat and Anand each have two counting centres.
182 counting observers and an equal number of election officials will be stationed for the counting process. A micro-observer, a counting supervisor, and a counting assistant will be assigned to each table in the counting centres.
Gujarat assembly elections were held in two stages on December 1 and 5. The turnout in the elections was 64.33 percent, the lowest in ten years. Only 3.16 crore of the 4.9 crore registered voters voted.
The BJP contested all 182 seats for which voting will take place, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) contested 181 seats. The Congress ran for 179 seats, while its alliance partner NCP ran for two.
In the 2017 elections, the BJP received 49% of the vote and won 99 seats, while the Congress received 41% of the vote and won 77 seats.
