Hrishikesh Kanitkar will take over as head coach of the women’s team, while Ramesh Powar will join the National Cricket Academy as a spin bowling coach.
Former Indian cricketer Hrishikesh Kanitkar has been named the senior women’s team’s batting coach. His appointment comes ahead of Australia’s T20 International series. The first of five matches in the series will be played at Delhi’s DY Patil Stadium.
Kanitkar made his ODI debut in 1997 and went on to play 34 matches, scoring 339 runs. He appeared in two Tests and scored 74 runs. Kanitkar has completed over 10,000 first-class runs.
Kanitkar has coached several teams at various levels of the game since 2011. He coached India’s U-19 team to World Cup victory earlier this year. He also coached the Ranji teams of Goa and Tamil Nadu. He was also a member of VVS Laxman’s coaching team, which prepared the Indian team for their recent tour of New Zealand.
Meanwhile, Ramesh Powar, the head coach of the Indian women’s cricket team, is set to join VVS Laxman’s National Cricket Academy (NCA). He is now the spin bowling coach for men’s cricket. Powar was appointed head coach of the women’s team in 2021 after VVS Laxman resigned to become the NCA’s head.
Laxman reacted to Powar’s appointment to the NCA, saying: “We are sure he will bring his expertise and experience to the National Cricket Academy. Having worked in domestic, age-group cricket and the international circuit, I am sure he will play an active role in the betterment of the game. I look forward to working with him in his new role at the NCA.”
