The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the appointment of its Cricket Advisory Committee on Thursday, which includes Ashok Malhotra, Jatin Paranjape, and Sulakshana Naik. While Naik’s position has been retained, Madan Lal and Rudra Pratap Singh have been replaced in the newly appointed CAC.
Malhotra has played in seven Tests and twenty One-Day Internationals for India, and he was recently elected President of the Indian Cricketers’ Association. Meanwhile, Paranjape has played four One-Day Internationals for India and served on the Senior Men’s Selection Committee.
In an 11-year career, Naik has played two Tests, 46 ODIs, and 31 T20Is for India.
According to the BCCI constitution, the selection committee is appointed by the CAC; however, the advisory committee has been operating without a head since October of last year, when Madan Lal turned 70.
RP Singh left the committee at the end of his term to work as a talent scout for the Mumbai Indians of the Indian Premier League.
After the Chetan Sharma-led five-member panel was relieved of its duties in November, the newly-appointed CAC members will now begin the procedure for the appointment of the senior selection committee. According to reports, a slew of former Indian cricketers from all four zones have applied for the selection committee panel.
During Chetan Sharma’s tenure as chief selector, India had a string of disappointing results in ICC tournaments; while the team lost in the World Test Championship final to New Zealand in 2021, it failed to advance past the group stage in the T20 World Cup the following year.
