Approximately 8,000 voters in five residential societies in Surat’s Kamrej area have decided to boycott elections after authorities failed to build a road in their neighbourhood for five years.
Voters in Surat’s Amba Luxuria, Laxmidham Society, Victoria Township, Navkar Residence, and Sahajanand Society have been advocating for a road connecting the societies for the past five years. However, no progress has been made, and angry voters have decided to boycott the election.
Instead of constructing the road, residents claim that politicians and the administration have only made false promises.
Local politicians who have been unable to act are now attempting to appease the residents.
The Kamrej seat will be contested by the BJP, Congress, and AAP, and even a small swing can tip the scales in any party’s favour.
Locals claimed that political parties pay heed to people’s demand only when elections are near and forget them once elections are over. Absence of proper roads make it difficult for locals to commute, particularly during the rainy season, they said.
