Dhanraj Nathwani, group president of Reliance Industries Ltd, was elected president of the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) on Saturday.
Nathwani, who was vice-president, will fill the vacancy left by Union Minister for Home and Co-operation Amit Shah’s resignation in 2019.
Shah took over as President of the GCA from Narendra Modi. With immediate effect, the state cricket body also announced the appointment of Hemantbhai Contractor as vice-president, Anilbhai Patel as secretary, Mayurbhai Patel as joint-secretary, and Bharat Zaveri as treasurer.
Nathwani was instrumental in the construction of the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad, the world’s largest cricket stadium.
Nathwani said: ‘I am determined to accelerate their (former presidents’) vision and that of Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, of spreading the sport into the remote areas.’
