Most Gujaratis aspire to make a life in the United States, but fate has something more interesting in store for them. ‘Chabutro,’ directed by Chanikya Patel, takes off from this thought.
Chabutro is the story of IT consultant Viraj (Raunaq Kamdar), who travels to the United States but is forced to return due to visa issues. In Ahmedabad, he meets architecture student Nivedita (Anjali Barot) and rediscovers his city as well as his own identity through her.
Elaborating on the movie’s title, Kamdar said, “Chabutro is a metaphor. Birds leave their nests to hunt for food and return in the evening. Similarly, the character in the movie has returned and is trying to find his place through the cityscape and heritage.”
Patel added, “Neha and I worked in the US before moving back and settling in Ahmedabad. I think there is a subconscious influence of our life in the story.”
The movie is set for theatrical release tomorrow.
