The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s General Board meeting on Wednesday devolved into chaos as opposition members claimed that the civic body was not providing enough fodder to impounded cattle, causing them to die.
Independent councillor Kalu Bharwad raised the issue, claiming that the AMC was not caring for the animals. Congress backed his claims, and councillors were on their feet demanding that animals be released after paying a fine.
The ruling BJP members shouted back that action was being taken as per High Court’s order.
Soon heated arguments ensued between Opposition and ruling party members. Congress members rushed to the well of the House and the Mayor suspended the meeting.
Earlier, Leader of Opposition Shahezad Pathan raised many issues like cleanliness, water supply, damaged roads and said that the civic body was short of funds to address issues raised by common people.
Nirav Baxi, Deputy Leader of the Opposition, also slammed the ruling BJP, alleging that it had failed to provide even basic services such as water, drainage, and roads. Members of the Congress said the BJP was able to win clean city awards, but the city was littered in many places.
Congress members also flashed a plaque saying best award for “Most Polluted City Ahmedabad”.
