In this era, people suffer sudden ‘cardiac arrest’ (temporary slowing or stopping of the heart). Through CPR even laymen can also provide treatment in this emergency. If this is used immediately, the person’s chance of survival increases by more than 40 percent. On World Heart Day, special CPR training was organized for rickshaw drivers by GCS Hospital in association with Ahmedabad Rickshaw Chalak Ekta Union on September 29.
Dr. Heena Chhanwal (HOD – Anaesthesia Department) and the team from the Anaesthesia Department of GCS Hospital explained the technique of CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) – how to save a person when a heart attack occurs, how to give compression in a particular part of the chest, in which position of the hand, and how much pressure should be given with the practice on mannequin too.
Many life-threatening incidents such as heart attack, electrocution, drowning and cardiac arrest, etc. can be saved by immediate CPR. The rickshaw drivers are more likely to be present in such times of emergencies so This CPR training can save the lives of many needy people. They were also rewarded with certificates for successfully completing COLS CPR training.
