Bajrang Dal workers caused a commotion at the Garba event due to the presence of members of the Muslim community. At various Garba pandals, the workers thrashed more than three men. On social media, a video of the incident has gone viral.
Bajrang Dal workers have been making surprise visits to various Garba venues in the city since the first day of navaratra to raise awareness about ‘love jihad’ among Hindu women. People who come to pandals to play garba are given a ’tilak’ on their foreheads. They also request their ID cards. On Tuesday night, they thrashed some Muslims at the R K Party plot in Ahmedabad.
Gujarat VHP spokesperson Hitendrasinh Rajput said, “Around 40 workers visited two Garba venues on Tuesday and distributed leaflets among girls and women asking them to be careful while speaking to men from other communities or religions.”
According to Ujjwal Seth, the student president of the Bajrang Dal Gujarat chapter, surprise checks are conducted annually to stop love jihad. In the days leading up to Navratri, the VHP vowed to take more drastic measures. However, Gujarat Police denied ever receiving any complaints.
