The Sabarmati riverfront’s lower promenades on the east and west banks were closed to the public from 8 pm on Wednesday, as part of a precautionary measure against flooding when water will be released into the Sabarmati river from the Dharoi dam in Mehsana district, Gujarat.
“The officials at the Dharoi dam have informed us that 28,000 cusecs of water was released into Sabarmati river this (Thursday) morning. Yesterday night, around 65,000 cusecs of water was released from the dam.We have received 40,000 cusecs of water in the Sabarmati in Ahmedabad as of Thursday afternoon. The maximum release of water was done Wednesday night. This measure is only precautionary”.
The riverfront’s lower promenade, built on a stretch of the river that passes through Ahmedabad, is a popular area for joggers, walkers, and bikers.
