Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya may serve as Team India’s vice-captain for the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 as per reports. He will also hold the same position for the T20 World Cup competitions.
According to BCCI sources, KL Rahul had recently tested positive for COVID-19 thus Pandya could replace him.
“The management is discussing over one name for vice-captaincy. It could be Hardik Pandya as he gave us good results in the past. He made Gujarat Titans the champions of IPL 2022 under his leadership. He showed great performances in the series against South Africa and England. We want to name an all-rounder for this post and in the current scenario, Hardik deserves this post,” sources informed.
KL Rahul was elected the vice-captain of India in both white-ball formats after Virat Kohli resigned from the T20I captaincy following the T20 World Cup in November of last year.
Pandya had a fantastic 2022. He led the team Gujarat Titans and became the Indian Premier League champion.
He took the lead for GT with 487 runs scored in 15 games at an average of 44.27 and four half-centuries. In addition, Pandya claimed eight wickets.
The India cricket team toured Ireland in June 2022 to play two T20I International matches with Hardik Pandya named as their captain. India won the series by 2-0.
Pandya also impressed everyone with his performances on the England tour as well. In the white-ball portion of the tour, he was incredibly skilled with both the bat and the ball. Pandya scored two outstanding half-centuries, the finest of which was 71. With the best bowling stats of 4/24, he also got 11 wickets for India.
The much awaited Asia Cup 2022 will take place from August 27.
