The Gujarat Public Safety (Measures) Enforcement Act was approved by the state parliament earlier this year and will take effect on 1 August.
All businesses must install CCTV cameras and other security measures, which will be inspected on a regular basis by public safety committees, according to the rule.
The law applies to commercial, industrial, social, and even religious establishments.
The rule, according to the state administration, will be enforced in any setting where a thousand people or more congregate at any given time, as well as any setting where a thousand people or more congregate throughout the course of a day.
According to a CMO statement issued on Sunday, the new law will be phased in. The law will be implemented first in eight major cities: Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Bhavnagar, Junagadh, and Gandhinagar.
The new law requires businesses to install metal detectors and CCTV cameras that meet specific standards. CCTV recordings must be kept for at least 30 days in all establishments.
Only police officers with the rank of sub-inspector or higher would be permitted to request CCTV footage from businesses. Public safety committees will be in charge of overseeing the new law’s implementation. As a result, residents’ security will be enhanced.
Officers at the Deputy Superintendent of Police level will serve as member secretaries, as will members of the Manapa Deputy Commissioner Committee and members of various associations in the affected areas. His tenure will be two years. The members of the committee will be appointed as secretaries in various areas by the Commissioner of Police.
