The National Forensic Science University (NFSU) in Gandhinagar is prepared with 100 high-tech forensic investigation vans which are equipped with 15 different types of probe kits including a Fingerprint Collection-data Analysis Kit.
The other kits include DNA Collection Kit, Blood-Sperm Detection and Collection Kit, Fire Arm Hole Detection and Analysis Kit, Explosive Detection and Analysis Kit, Drugs Collection and Analysis Kit, and Blood Alcohol Analysis Kit among others.
The vans will help collect timely evidence from a crime scene and aid in providing a preliminary report to the police at the earliest. It will also prevent the loss and destruction of important evidence due to natural or manmade causes.
The vans developed in collaboration with the Central government will be given to different district police across the country in the next few days.
The van will ensure that cops reach the crime scene at the earliest ready to collect evidence.
“We get many complicated criminal cases from across the country and sometimes there is a lack of sufficient standard evidence while in other cases the evidence is ambiguous. This happens because the evidence was not scientifically collected which impacts the investigation report,” said a senior officer of the Directorate of Forensic Sciences in Gandhinagar.
He said if the evidence is collected properly and promptly then accurate reports can be prepared.
The van has over 15 investigation kits for preliminary analysis and collection of evidence in various types of crime. The Centre plans to distribute 100 such vans across the country and the NFSU has already readied 40 of them worth Rs 60 lakh. The vans will be handed over to the district police of different states in the next few days.
Former eligible NFSU students will be assigned the work of investigating and analysing the evidence collected.
