Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) has banned the sale and storage of chicken, mutton, and fish on four Mondays beginning on July 29 during the month of “Sawan” and on the day of the Hindu festival Janmashtami.
According to the notification, on August 1, 8, 15, and 22 (the four Mondays in Sawan), facilities and the sale and storage of meat, mutton, fish, and chicken are prohibited.
According to the notification dated July 22, the sale of meat will also be prohibited on August 19 when Janmashtami will be observed.
A representative of the RMC’s solid waste management division confirmed the notification and stated that the ban would be in effect on Sawan, a Hindu holy day when believers of Lord Shiva observe fasts and offer prayers. During Sawan, several rituals are also carried out..
The start of Sawan occurs on different dates depending on the location. While it began on July 14 in states like Bihar and Jharkhand, it will start on July 29 in Gujarat and Maharashtra.
