Five students from Ahmedabad and Surat secured All India Ranks (AIR) in the Top 50 in the CA Final exams earlier this year. Notably, two of these students were also among the top ten.
Shrushti Sanghavi from Surat had an AIR of 3, while Priyank Shah from Ahmedabad came in 10th place overall.
Other rank holders from Ahmedabad included Om Akhani (AIR 16), Ruchit Vakharia (AIR 21), Dhvanil Shah (AIR 27) and Parth Lakhtariya (AIR 47). The other rank holders from Surat are Arun Borana (AIR 32), Arham Parekh (AIR 37), Siddharth Saharia (AIR 40), and Rohit Siddha (AIR 42).
A total of 12,449 candidates across the country qualified as Chartered Accountants (CAs) of which 400 (3.2%) are from Ahmedabad, 138 (1.1%) from Surat and 1,200 (9.6%) are from Gujarat.
Keeping it in the family and moving it forward Shrushti Sanghavi, who came in third place behind Meet Shah of Mumbai (AIR 1) and Akshat Goyal of Jaipur (AIR 2), comes from a family of CAs.
Her father Keyur Sanghavi, paternal grandfather Ashwin Sanghavi, uncle Amish Sanghavi and even her fiance are all CAs.
Shrushti said despite the legion of CAs in her own home including her fiance she was never under pressure to study in the same field but had decided to do so on her own. She said she stayed away from social media for six months while studying for the exam and that got reflected in her results.
Priyank Shah, who scored AIR 10, is a resident of Ahmedabad. His father is an accountant with a factory in the city while his mother has her own catering business. Priyank says he has taken his father’s legacy forward by building on it. After scoring 91% in Class 10 board exams, he said people were surprised when he chose the commerce stream.
Priyank, however, said he had already decided his career path then.
This term, 808 students from Ahmedabad appeared in both groups with 132 clearing both of them, a pass percentage of 16.34% which is marginally higher than 15.72% pass rate in the December 2021 exam.
