Drop in COVID-19 cases, Ahmedabad city reports 212 positive cases

A day after Ahmedabad city crossed 300 new COVID-19 cases on July 7, a new high in June-July spoke of cases, and the city saw a drastic drop in new cases on Friday, falling by roughly one-third from the previous day.

Ahmedabad city reported just 212 new Covid cases over the previous 24 hours against 309 cases on Thursday. A commensurate fall in cases was reported in the state statistics as well with only 636 new cases being reported on July 8 against 717 the previous day.

Cases in Surat city against remained stagnant with 86 new cases against 88 on Thursday. There was a rise in Vadodara city which reported 57 new cases on July 8 against 29 on July 7. There were 38 cases in rural Surat and 30 in Gandhinagar city. There were 28 cases in rural Gandhinagar. There were 26 new cases in Bhavnagar city.

Valsad reported 16 new cases followed by 15 in Kutch, 13 each in in Bharuch and Navsari. There were 11 cases each reported from Patan and rural Rajkot. All other cities and districts either reported cases in single digits or reported no new cases at all.

There were no official Covid deaths reported in Gujarat on Friday, bringing the total number of Covid fatalities in the state to 10,948.

The total number of active Covid cases in Gujarat rose to 3,893 patients. Of these, 5 were on ventilator support while 3,888 were said to be in stable condition.
