India registered 16,135 new Covid-19 cases on Monday, bringing the total caseload to 4,35,18,564. According to data from the Union Health Ministry, the positivity rate was 4.85 percent.
The number of new cases was 0.2% higher than on Sunday. The number of active cases increased by 2,153.
Meanwhile, 24 deaths were reported during this period, increasing the overall death count to 5,25,223.
The top five states which have registered maximum cases are Kerala with 3,642 cases, followed by Maharashtra with 2,962 cases, Tamil Nadu with 2,672 cases, West Bengal with 1,822 cases and Karnataka with 826 cases.
According to the data, 73.9 per cent of the new cases are reported from these five states, with Kerala alone responsible for 22.57 per cent of the new cases.
Meanwhile, a total of 13,958 patients recovered in the last 24 hours, bringing the total recoveries to 4,28,79,477 across the country. India’s recovery rate stood at 98.53 per cent while the active caseload was at 1,13,864 on Monday.
The country administered a total of 1,78,383 vaccine doses during this period, taking the tally of doses administered to 1,97,98,21,197.
Furthermore, 3,32,978 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.
