The Gujarat government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Isha Outreach to save soil.
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed last evening in the presence of Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, the founder of the Isha Foundation, and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.
Speaking on this occasion, Chief Minister Patel has said that the State Government has been implementing the soil health cards project for farmers since 2004. He said that 115 soil health laboratories have been set up across the state to test and certify soil health.
“Gujarat will take the lead in conserving the soil and all the other organisms which are crucial for our existence on this planet”, CM added.
Sadhguru expressed his happiness on Gujarat becoming the first Indian state to sign the MoU and appreciated the response he received in the state since his arrival from a journey of 26 nations across Europe, Central Asia and Middle East.
Sadhguru had launched the ‘Save Soil’ Movement in March this year to prevent a phenomenon that UN agencies are referring to as ‘soil extinction’ – the death of fertile soils worldwide posing an existential threat to the human race.
The MoU will cover soil protection issues such as preventing aridity, salinity, and increasing green cover.
He is currently on a 100-day lone motorcycle journey spanning 30,000-km across Europe, Central Asia and the Middle East to build consensus for urgent policy-driven action globally to prevent soil extinction.
