IPL excitement is at an all-time high now that the Gujarat Titans have qualified for the finals. Cricket crazed fans are expected to descend on the city with heightened zeal to see the final match this Sunday at Motera in Ahmedabad, causing airfares to the city to skyrocket
About 220 flights arrive and depart from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. According to airport officials, normal traffic at the airport ranges between 19,000 and 20,000 passengers. This usual number has risen by over 20,000 in the last three days, all thanks to IPI fans
Just like Airlines, during this weekend, hoteliers are expected to make a killing, with occupancy levels reaching as high as 90% across the city’s market and average daily rates (ADR) reaching Rs 10,000 per room per night. This means that ADR has increased by 30 to 50%
According to Deep Preet Singh Bhindra. General Manager of Marriot Ahmedabad, “Normally the hotels range from around Rs 5,500 to 5,800. That’s the average ADR (average daily rate) of the city, so, during this period, the ADR almost doubled”
Further, he added that most of the hotels have been sold out in the city, even with double the rates as usual “Most hotels are kind of inching towards a sell-out, because of the IPL rush the rates are almost touching beyond Rs 10,000 that’s the average ADR which is commanded by the Hotels in the city. Even at Marriot, we are approaching a Sell out around with an ADR of Rs 10,000”
