The customer who found a lizard floating in his cold drink at McDonald’s in Ahmedabad claimed that the restaurant laughed at his complaint and continued to serve him without responding.
The authorities also collected food samples from the McDonald’s location, which has been closed by the local authorities due to “larger public health and safety concerns.” The lizard incident occurred on Saturday, and the authorities closed the outlet on Sunday.
According to the customer, Bhargav Joshi, who filed the complaint, “Lizard was found in my soft drink at a McDonald’s outlet. The area manager laughed over the complaint and told us that he’ll check (CCTV) cameras. He didn’t return, meanwhile, the orders continue. When we pressed them to take action, they offered to return the bill amount.”
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), then took cognizance of the matter after Joshi also posted the video on the internet that took it by storm.
The floating lizard in cola went viral on social media overnight. Following the incident and the post going viral on the social media, McDonald’s also issued a statement over the same.
McDonald’s reportedly said in a statement, “we are looking into this incident that is alleged to have taken place at the Ahmedabad outlet. While we have checked repeatedly and found nothing wrong, we are cooperating with the authorities, being a good corporate citizen.”
As per rules set by FSSAI, the outlet might be imposed with a penalty of up to one lakh rupees and/or imprisonment of up to six month for serving and making food in unhygienic conditions.
