SBI employee clerical error leads to Rs 1.5 crore worth of wrong transfer

An SBI bank employee recently got himself into a big mess due to a clerical error. According to reports, the staffer’s error resulted in the misappropriation of funds intended for the Telangana government’s flagship programme, the Dalit Bandhu scheme.

Business News

The special scheme aims to provide one-time capital assistance of Rs 10 lakh per SC family. According to a report, this scheme offers SC families a 100 per cent subsidy to set up a suitable income generating source.

This error resulted in an unintentional transfer of Rs 1.50 crore into the (salary) accounts of 15 Lotus Hospitals employees. Each employee received a cheque for Rs 10 lakh. As a result, a case has been filed against a ‘accidental’ beneficiary.

As soon as the SBI Rangareddy District Collectorate branch officials acknowledged the error, they requested that the money be returned to the hospital’s employees.

According to media reports, 14 of the 15 employees returned the money, but one named Mahesh was unable to do so because he was unavailable by phone. Surprisingly, Mahesh assumed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had made the Rs 10 lakh deposit into his bank account and thus withdrew a certain amount to clear his debt.

Furthermore, despite repeated requests, Mahesh did not return the money. Following that, the bank official filed a complaint against him.

Despite the confusion, no complaint has been filed against the bank employee for his error.
