Ahmedabad Municipal Transport will soon introduce and operate 50 new electric-buses, for which a contract with Tata Company has been signed. The buses are expected to be procured in the months of June and July as the AMTS committee approved the proposal for e-buses yesterday.
The electric line has been taken over by Torrent Power. This electric charging station, which will be built in the Jamalpur area, will cost up to Rs26.5 million in total. The Ahmedabad Corporation will cover the basic costs, while Tata will cover the rest.
The decision comes at a time when rising gasoline and diesel prices are forcing a growing number of people to use public transportation in the city. This year, the number of AMTS passengers has increased dramatically, even month over month.
In general, e-vehicles are very efficient and practical to use because they reduce travel costs. They are also environmentally friendly options as they emit no emissions. Petrol and diesel are nonrenewable energy sources, and countries must reduce their reliance on them.
