After hearing the report of an expert panel constituted to investigate the escalating number of incidents of electric two-wheelers catching fire, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said on Thursday that the government will issue required directives on defaulting businesses.
Gadkari stated in a series of tweets that multiple disasters using electric two-wheelers have surfaced in the recent two months.
“We have constituted an expert committee to enquire into these incidents and make recommendations on remedial steps. Based on the reports, we will issue necessary orders on the defaulting companies,” the minister said.
“We will soon issue quality-centric guidelines for Electric Vehicles,” he added.
If a corporation is proven to be careless in its practises, the minister stated that a substantial penalty will be applied, as well as a recall of all defective automobiles.
Meanwhile, Gadkari stated that businesses may take urgent action to recall all problematic batches of vehicles. “Under PM Shri @narendramodi ji’s leadership, our administration is committed to ensuring the safety of every commuter,” he tweeted.
