The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly planning to hold the IPL 2022 closing ceremony in Ahmedabad, where the final will be played.
The ongoing IPL 2022 edition, which features ten teams and 70 league games, is being held at four venues in Maharashtra to reduce the possibility of Covid-19 transmission via flight travel.
The venues for the playoffs have not been announced yet, but the Eden Gardens in Kolkata will most likely host the qualifier 1 and eliminator, while the qualifier 2 followed by the final on May 29 will be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
According to sources, the BCCI intends to hold a closing ceremony in the final of the IPL 2022, which will restore the tournament’s colour. An event management company will also be hired once the decision is confirmed by the BCCI.
The idea is to give IPL its colourful closing ceremony back.
Earlier editions of IPL 2020 and 2021 were held behind closed doors in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.
