Ravi Shastri demands a Life ban on offender who bullied Chahal

Indian spinner Yuzvendra Chahal who made his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut under the leadership of Mumbai Indians (MI) icon Rohit Sharma, shared his near-death experience during a freewheeling conversation with veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin.

Now former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri has demanded a life ban on the offender who misbehaved with the star spinner during a get-together in 2013.

In conversation with Ashwin, Chahal revealed that a Mumbai Indians player had dangled him from the balcony after getting drunk.

Reacting to Chahal’s shocking revelation, former Indian head coach Shastri reckoned that the offender should be given a life ban from cricket.

“No laughing matter at all. I do not know who the person involved is, he was not in a conscious state of mind. If that is the case, then it is a big worry. Someone’s life is at risk, some people might think it is funny but for me, it is not funny at all. It shows the person who is trying to do it is in a state which is not appropriate. When you are in such a state trying something like that, the chances of mistakes are even more. It is not acceptable at all,” Shastri told ESPNcricinfo.

“It is the first time I am hearing such a drastic thing like this. It is not funny at all. If such an incident happens today, a life ban for that person involved and send that person to a rehab centre as quickly as possible. Life ban, better not come near to a cricket field then he will realise how funny is it or not funny,” Shastri added.

Earlier, former Indian cricketers Virender Sehwag and Aakash Chopra had urged Chahal to reveal the identity of the Mumbai Indians player.

Recalling another incident of physical harassment, Chahal revealed that his former Mumbai Indians team-mates James Franklin and Andrew Symonds had once tied him up in a room for a whole night.
