The vaccine manufacturers of India Bharat Biotech and Serum Institute of India have announced a price slash in their vaccines ahead of the booster dose rollout for 18-59 age groups.
The price cut comes a day after the central government announced booster dose for all adults of 18 year and above at all private vaccination centres from April 10.
Serum Institute of India, CEO Adar Poonawalla said on Twitter “We are pleased to announce that after discussion with the Central Government, SII has decided to revise the price of COVISHIELD vaccine for private hospitals from Rs.600 to Rs 225 per dose. We once again commend this decision from the Centre to open precautionary dose to all 18+.”
Meanwhile Joint Managing Director, Bharat Biotech Suchitra Ella also announced a price drop in the Covaxin.
Ella said, “We have decided to revise the price of Covaxin from Rs 1200 to Rs 225 per dose for private hospitals”. This is a huge relief for the citizens as the Union Health Secretary in a meeting with all Health Secretaries of States/UTs regarding precaution dose for 18-59 age group said that private vaccination centres can charge a maximum of Rs 150 as service charge for vaccination over and above the cost of vaccine.
