After setbacks owing to Covid-19 instances, the Tejas Express, India’s first private train between Mumbai and Ahmedabad, will shortly resume its regular schedule. From April 12, Indian Railways has decided to increase the frequency to six days per week. It will now operate on Tuesdays as well, with Thursdays serving as the “usual weekly maintenance off.”
Trains 82902–82901 have been running five days a week since January 2022. In Mumbai, the train stops in significant commercial destinations like Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Nadiad, Vapi, and Borivali. It can accommodate 736 passengers, with two executive class chair cars each with 56 seats and eight chair cars each with 78 seats.
The Ahmedabad-Mumbai Tejas Express, which caters to business travellers, started service on January 19, 2020. It might run for approximately three months before being shut down due to poor occupancy. The train was briefly reintroduced in October, but poor capacity caused the cancellation of service in November 2022.
Indian Railways started its first Tejas project between Lucknow and Delhi in October 2019. The train has some of the most cutting-edge amenities available in Indian railroads. It is India’s first semi-high-speed fully air-conditioned train, operated by the Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), a subsidiary of Indian Railways.
From March 8 to May 31, the frequency of Tejas Express trains between Delhi and Lucknow was raised to six days per week. The train travels 511 kilometres in 6 hours and 15 minutes, stopping only at Ghaziabad and Kanpur Railway stations.
Meanwhile, the service of prepared meals in trains has been restored after being suspended for over two years following the onset of the COVID-19 epidemic. Cooked meal services have been resumed on all trains as of February 14. Catering services were halted in March 2020, and lockdown was imposed in March 2020. With the pandemic situation improving, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) resumed serving ready-to-eat meals on trains in August 2021.
