The Centre’s decision to hike rates for renewal of registration for vehicles over 15 years old will impact as many as 20 lakh vehicle owners.
The renewed registration rates will be effective from April 4. The registration renewal of a 15-year-old car will now cost Rs 5,000 from the earlier Rs 600, while it will be Rs 1,000 for a motorcycle from the earlier Rs 300. The registration renewal cost for an imported car is
Rs 40,000 from the earlier Rs 15,000, while for a motorcycle it is Rs 10,000 from April 1 as per a notification by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
