The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicts heatwave conditions in isolated pockets of Gujarat’s Saurashtra-Kutch subdivision, as well as the Gujarat region from Friday, March 25 to Sunday, March 27.
As a result, a yellow watch has been issued over Saurashtra-Kutch from Friday and the Gujarat region from Saturday. This advisory, which urges residents to “be aware” of the local heatwave situation, will be in effect until at least March 28.
Furthermore, some district-level heatwave alerts have been issued over Surendranagar, Bhavnagar, Porbandar, Junagadh, Gir Somnath, Rajkot, Kutch, Amreli and Botad in Saurashtra-Kutch; and Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Mehsana, Patan, Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar in the north Gujarat region.
Ahmedabad’s daytime temperatures are likely to max out at 38°C and 39°C on March 25, respectively, and then spike to 40°C and beyond after March 26.
Amid such conditions, it is highly advisable that vulnerable groups of people — infants, elderly, people with chronic diseases — to take extra precautions and avoid heat exposure. If going out is unavoidable, make sure to stay hydrated, dress in light-colored cotton clothing, and keep your head covered. Here are some more heat-related dos and don’ts.
