The Indian Army recently built two houses for its personnel using 3D Printing Technology. The Military Engineering Services (MES) finally completed the first-ever 3D Printed houses at the South Western Air Command in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
The 3D Printed houses were inaugurated in presence of Engineer in Chief Lt Gen Harpal Singh, Indian Army officials said.
According to a report, concrete 3D printing is an automated manufacturing method for constructing three-dimensional real-life structures.
The method utilizes a concrete 3D printer that accepts a user-supplied computerised three-dimensional design file and fabricates a three-dimensional structure layer by layer by extruding a specialised type of concrete specifically designed for the task.
The concrete modules are first constructed in a factory, MES used 3D printing technology to construct two houses in four weeks. The foundation is laid first, followed by the assembly of the modules. After that, it’s just a matter of laying out tiles and painting the final touches. Instead of a few months, they only took 30 days to complete.
IIT-Madras startup Tvasta was the first to construct 3D printed houses within its campus, these take far less time to construct as opposed to traditional houses. These houses are affordable and can be completely customised without the use of excessive materials.
