Over 1,200 people fell ill and were hospitalised after they consumed food at the wedding of a local Congress leader’s son in Mehsana district of Gujarat, police said on Saturday.
According to a Visnagar rural police station official, the incident happened late Friday night in Savala village in Visnagar taluka.
People started vomiting and complained of diarrhoea, following which they were rushed to different hospitals in Visnagar, Mehsana and Vadnagar, police official said.
The Forensic Science Laboratory and the Food and Drug Department have collected samples of the food served at the function for further examination.
Several people attended the wedding of a local Congress leader’s son in Savala village, according to Visnagar rural police. There was also non-vegetarian food on the menu.
According to police, an additional investigation is underway.
