The Covid-19-induced night curfew will remain in effect in two Gujarat cities, Ahmedabad and Vadodara, from midnight to 5 a.m. until February 25, according to a state government order issued on Thursday. The new rules will go into effect on Friday.
The state government, on the other hand, lifted the coronavirus-induced night curfew in six cities in the state following a significant decrease in Covid-19 cases.
According to a state government notification, ‘night curfew will be lifted from Surat, Rajkot, Bhavnagar, Junagadh, Jamnagar, and Gandhinagar on February 19, while the 12 am to 5 am curfew will continue in Ahmedabad and Vadodara until February 25.’ The decision was made at a meeting of the core committee, which was presided over by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.
On February 10, the state government decided to relax the night curfew timings in eight major cities when Covid cases declined.
“The state government has decided to further ease the restrictions so that business and the economy are not hurt further when COVID-19 cases are continuously declining in the state,” Patel quoted as saying. Moreover, he also thanked the people of the state for following the Covid restrictions imposed by the state government to contain the spread of infection.
According to the most recent order, religious, social, political, and other gatherings can be held in open areas with a capacity of 75% and indoors with a capacity of 50%. Marriage registration with local authorities will be phased out beginning this Saturday.
Business establishments can continue to operate until 11 p.m. According to a home department notification, hotels and restaurants in Ahmedabad and Vadodara can continue parcel delivery during curfew hours.
The Gujarat government also allowed Anganwadi centres, pre-schools, and kindergartens to reopen for the first time in two years following the pandemic on Thursday.
