The Maha-Shivratri Mela will be held at Bhavnath, in the foothills of Mount Girnar in Junagadh, from February 25th to March 1 this year
Due to the covid-19 pandemic, the Maha Shivratri Mela has not been held in the last two years. However, the state government has granted permission to hold the traditional Shivratri mela in Junagadh this year, as the peak of the third wave of the covid pandemic has passed and the number of new cases is steadily decreasing day by day.
The sadhus and devotees across the state had demanded to grant approval for Maha Shivratri mela at Bhavnath this year.
The government’s decision was announced at a meeting hosted by Junagadh collector Rachit Raj. This meeting included a detailed discussion of various issues concerning the fair with sadhus, leaders, MLAS, leaders of municipal corporations, and social bodies.
In the coming days, various committees will be formed to organise the fair.
Over a million people attend the Bhavnath fair, which lasts five days and is primarily attended for the darshan of Naga babas and their midnight march to Mrugi kund water tank on Maha Shivratri.
