Ahmedabad: New Covid-19 cases in Gujarat fell by nearly a fifth to 1,040 on Monday, the lowest in more than six weeks.
The state had reported 1,274 Covid-19 cases on Sunday, and today’s tally of 1,040 is more than 18% lower. According to the state health department’s Covid-19 bulletin, the tally in Ahmedabad fell to 341, almost a quarter lower than yesterday’s tally of 450. The cases also fell sharply in Vadodara city from 257 to 170. Banaskantha (71) and Vadodara rural (64) were the only other places that reported over 50 cases in the last 24 hours.
Forty-six persons tested positive in Surat rural, 34 in Surat city, while the cases declined to nine in Ahmedabad rural. Dang, Devbhoomi Dwarka, and Junagadh rural reported zero new cases.
The state’s Covid-19 death toll rose to 10,822 with 14 more deaths, health department data showed. Vadodara city accounted for four deaths, Bhavnagar rural two, and Ahmedabad city, Surat rural Panchmahal, Bhavnagar city, Valsad, Mahisagar, Morbi, and Jamnagar rural one each.
Gujarat’s active Covid-19 caseload slipped to 12,667 from 14,211 yesterday with 2,570 more patients recovering. The number of persons who have recovered so far went up to 11.92 lakh, while the overall recovery rate once again crossed 98%. The number of patients on ventilators fell below 100 to 84.
Covid-19 vaccination in the state neared 10.12 crore with 1.58 lakh vaccines being administered in the last 24 hours, the data showed.
